Bob at the North St. Lawrence Market, Thanksgiving Saturday Morning

It was Thanksgiving Saturday morning, and North St. Lawrence Market was already buzzing by the time Bob arrived. The air was cool and crisp outside, but inside the market, warmth and chatter filled every corner. Shoppers crowded the aisles with baskets and reusable bags, picking through the best produce Ontario had to offer for their holiday dinners.

Bob moved slowly through the market, camera ready, watching the morning unfold. A woman in a green hoodie sold garlic and tomatoes with a practiced smile, handing over small brown paper bags to customers already planning their roasts and sauces. Just across from her, a mountain of pumpkins and squash spilled across the table, their orange and cream tones glowing under the market lights — the unmistakable colors of Thanksgiving.

At another stall, a farmer arranged cartons of fresh eggs while a line of shoppers discussed pies and side dishes. “Do you use leeks or onions in your stuffing?” someone asked, sparking a friendly debate that stretched down the line. Bob smiled and snapped a quiet photo — it was these small moments that told the bigger story.

Outside, under the red tents, sunlight filtered in through the glass. Vendors stood behind tables of corn, strawberries, and late-season flowers. One young woman laughed as she handed over a bag of corn, her cheerful energy brightening the cool morning. Nearby, a Mennonite farmer stood behind bins of red peppers and tomatoes, greeting customers like old friends.

Bob realized that this scene was Thanksgiving in motion — not the dinner itself, but the preparation, the coming together of people and food and stories. Every handshake, every shared smile over a bundle of vegetables carried that familiar sense of gratitude.

By the time Bob left, the market was even busier. Bags were fuller, tables lighter, and the spirit of the holiday seemed to hum in the air. Thanksgiving Saturday at North St. Lawrence Market wasn’t just a morning errand — it was a living tradition, and Bob had captured it one photo at a time.
