What Prime Lens Bob Should Take to Photograph a Wedding

Bob knows weddings are full of quick moments — laughter, emotion, and a lot of movement — so he needs lenses that can handle low light, portraits, and details without missing the magic.

Here’s what Bob should pack in his camera bag:

 1. Sony 50mm f/1.8 OSS

This is Bob’s portrait hero.
At a wedding, it gives beautiful background blur (bokeh) and keeps faces looking natural and flattering. Perfect for the bride and groom portraits, ceremony shots, or emotional moments during the vows.
Bob can stand back a little and still fill the frame — it’s the lens that makes people look their best.

 2. Sony 30mm f/3.5 Macro

This is Bob’s detail storyteller.
It’s not just for insects — it’s amazing for rings, flowers, table decorations, and even the bride’s dress details. Bob loves this lens for storytelling close-ups that add variety to his wedding album.

 3. Optional: Sony 16mm f/2.8 with Ultra Wide Converter (12mm)

This combo turns into Bob’s venue lens.
He can use it for wide shots of the church interior, the reception hall, or group photos when space is tight. It’s not great for portraits — too much distortion — but it helps capture the atmosphere.

What Bob Should Leave at Home

The plain Sony 16mm f/2.8 pancake lens without the converter.
It’s fine for street shots, but at a wedding it’ll make people look stretched, and it doesn’t handle dim light well. Bob saves this one for sunny photo walks in Toronto, not for first dances.
